活動簡介

Professor Payne’s current research has led to the development of the first full-brain model in humans of cerebral blood flow. His plans over the next few years are to turn this into a personalised tool that can be applied to predict outcome based on the demographic information and clinical imaging data that are available on a patient-specific basis. This will also consider the effects of ageing and hypertension, and for the first time develop a model that quantifies the effect that exercise has on brain development in adults. This will be the first such and the most sophisticated such model in the world. This will allow clinicians to understand better the likely outcome of ischaemic stroke and the different treatments available, to help them to make better decisions, as well as helping to guide population health interventions to tackle hypertension and to promote exercise. His work also has applications in other brain diseases, such as dementia, where our understanding of the causes and potential interventions remain poor. Ultimately, the goal is to promote better brain health in the population, such that both longevity and quality of life are enhanced for all.
