Introduction to the event

Dr. Wang’s research examines welfare systems in global, East Asian, and Taiwanese contexts. Leading a cross-national research team with members from 29 countries, she organized a series of online seminars between 2023 and 2024 that explored social assistance systems, built collaborative networks, and facilitated the collection of model family data across countries. Drawing on this empirical foundation, the team aims to map the characteristics of welfare regimes worldwide. In October 2024, Dr. Wang hosted the International Conference on Global Welfare Research at National Taiwan University, bringing together collaborators and speakers from more than 20 countries, including those in North and South America, Africa, South and Southeast Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, and Russia. The conference not only examined the comparative features of global welfare systems but also laid the groundwork for future joint publications.

In collaboration with the East Asian research team, Dr. Wang has analyzed welfare developments in the region, extending the focus to diverse topics such as social safety nets, social assistance, crisis response, medical aid, family policies, marriage values, and regional disparities. In Taiwan, her team has collected model family data across nine municipalities and detailed information on social assistance program design in 22 counties and cities. Preliminary findings have been presented at both domestic and international conferences.

Since fall 2022, she has published 19 SSCI journal articles (accepted or published), four book chapters, delivered 32 conference presentations, and given 22 invited lectures. Dr. Wang has been recognized with the National Science and Technology Council’s 2030 Cross-Generation Young Scholar Program Award, the Wu Ta-You Memorial Award, and the Excellent Young Scholar Research Award from the Taiwan Association of Social Work Education.
