Introduction to the event
Yu Voon Ng, a member of Ting-Wen Lan’s research team, has led a large-scale astronomical data analysis, processing nearly one million spectra. From this dataset, Yu Voon successfully extracted faint signals hidden within the noise—signals that are induced by the circumgalactic gas of galaxies. By applying statistical methods, Yu Voon systematically measured the correlations between galaxy properties and their circumgalactic medium, covering parameter space that had rarely been explored before. This research overcomes the long-standing limitation of small sample sizes in past studies, enabling a more comprehensive understanding of the interactions between galaxies and their gaseous halos. These results not only offer a new observational benchmark but will also serve as an essential reference for testing theoretical models, laying a critical foundation for unveiling the physical mechanisms that govern galaxy formation and evolution.
